A defective unit usually will cause a base boost condition (the car won't boost past 5 PSI and will be very slow to accelerate), or constant overshoot which will cause unusually high boost which will trigger fuel cut (this will feel as though someone momentarially kicked your foot off the gas), and then it will cut back on.
